Thursday, Monmouth Park, Race 6

Thursdays sixth race at Monmouth Park is a five furlong maiden event for two year old's. Eight were entered but it appears that only seven will run as Stewart Elliot is named to ride both halves of the Kelly Breen entry.

Rondevous makes his first lifetime start for Todd Pletcher. This son of Montbrook sold for 140k earlier this year at the OBS February sale, which is a high price for a son of this sire. He posted a bullet work out of the gate at Keeneland going :46 flat for four furlongs back in late April, and has been training steadily at Belmont Park for this race. I'm a little concerned that Pletcher didn't leave this one at Churchill, where there are more two year old races, or enter him in one of the two year old races already run at Belmont. However, he does get Bravo and should flash some gate speed. Atomic Rain/Rapid Redux both sport excellent pedigrees and have both run previously. Atomic Rain finished second to Kickapoo in his lone start, a four and a half furlong race less than a month ago. Kickapoo, a Pletcher trainee, was very impressive that day and is being pointed for the Tremont Stakes at Belmont Park. Rapid Redux finished second in his debut to another Pletcher runner, Silent Valor in a five furlong Maiden Special Weight at Belmont Park. They may need more ground based on their pedigrees, but both show quick four furlong works since their races, and both are adding Lasix for the first time. Either one will be dangerous. The Crooner was recently shipped north by Calder based trainer Eddie Plesa. Though this ones works aren't all too impressive, he attracts Eddie Castro, an up and coming rider and sports a pedigree which suggests speed(Songandaprayer).
