Friday, Arlington Park, Race 6

This maiden special weight event will be run for fillies and mares three year olds and upward who will travel a distance of six furlongs over the main track. Fourteen are entered to race here so there should be some nice prices, and good payouts.

E Major, a four year old filly by E Dubai will be making her second lifetime start in this race. In her last race she faced much better competition at Churchill Donws finishing a good 3rd beaten only five and a quarter lengths. Since that race she has had three four furlong works, including a bullet :46.1 on May 30th. She looks like shes ready to roll. Wild Adventure ran in a similar spot last time out and ran second after hanging late in the stretch. She retains Razo, and has to be included based on her last race at this level. Kip Seville is a full brother to multiple Grade One winner and Breeders Cup Mile winner Kip Deville. She has only run three times and in her lone start on the Polytrack, she was beaten six and a half lengths after being fanned five wide. That race was at Keeneland where the competition is much stiffer, so if she can run anywhere back to that race she should be close.

1. E Major
2. Wild Adventure
3. Kip Seville

Results, Thursday, Monmouth Park, Race 6

The second time starter, Atomic Rain ran away with this one late to win by two and a half lengths. First time starter, Neatoknock ran well in his debut against open company and should be live the next time he runs. As for my pick, Rondevous, he bobbled at the start and raced evenly to get third.

Thursday, Monmouth Park, Race 6

Thursdays sixth race at Monmouth Park is a five furlong maiden event for two year old's. Eight were entered but it appears that only seven will run as Stewart Elliot is named to ride both halves of the Kelly Breen entry.

Rondevous makes his first lifetime start for Todd Pletcher. This son of Montbrook sold for 140k earlier this year at the OBS February sale, which is a high price for a son of this sire. He posted a bullet work out of the gate at Keeneland going :46 flat for four furlongs back in late April, and has been training steadily at Belmont Park for this race. I'm a little concerned that Pletcher didn't leave this one at Churchill, where there are more two year old races, or enter him in one of the two year old races already run at Belmont. However, he does get Bravo and should flash some gate speed. Atomic Rain/Rapid Redux both sport excellent pedigrees and have both run previously. Atomic Rain finished second to Kickapoo in his lone start, a four and a half furlong race less than a month ago. Kickapoo, a Pletcher trainee, was very impressive that day and is being pointed for the Tremont Stakes at Belmont Park. Rapid Redux finished second in his debut to another Pletcher runner, Silent Valor in a five furlong Maiden Special Weight at Belmont Park. They may need more ground based on their pedigrees, but both show quick four furlong works since their races, and both are adding Lasix for the first time. Either one will be dangerous. The Crooner was recently shipped north by Calder based trainer Eddie Plesa. Though this ones works aren't all too impressive, he attracts Eddie Castro, an up and coming rider and sports a pedigree which suggests speed(Songandaprayer).

1. Rondevous
2. Atomic Rain/Rapid Redux
3. The Crooner

Results, Wednesday Belmont Race #7

A rainy morning saw this race taken off the turf. With the scratches of Compromise, Holiday Trip, So It Goes and Vision of Sunrise, the field was reduced to six runners. Going off as the odds on choice, Slambino stalked the lead in third along the backside before taking over without urging midway on the turn. In the stretch he poured it on to win easily. Lava Cat got up for second, while Riz Sauvage checked in third.

Big Brown Works Five Furlongs

Big Brown worked five furlongs over the Belmont surface in a swift minute and change shortly after the renovation break. Under regular exercise rider Michele Nevin he was a bit rank early on and galloped out six furlongs in 1:14 and change. According to Rick Dutrow, he came out of the work good and is ready for his run on Saturday. If all is well he will walk the shedrow tomorrow, jog Thursday, gallop Friday and then be patched up in time for Saturday's race. All indications are that he is ready to go.

Wednesday, Belmont, Race 7

Belmont's seventh race on Wednesday looks like a contentious one, but this is how i see it:

Straight Money Man enters off two impressive scores at Calder. Trainer Bill Kaplan recently sent this three year old north, after the massive cuts in purse money at Calder. In his last two races, he has laid close to the lead. It will be a big step up in class, but it looks like he's the controlling speed, he has Hall of Famer Edgar Prado in the irons, and shows a bullet five furlong work. Not to mention, but he should be a price. Compromise is a lightly raced four year old gelding owned by Peter Vegso and trained by Bill Mott. A half brother to graded stakes winner Go Between, he won his debut last year over this very course. Since then he has only made two starts, finishing second twice. He is training well but the rail wasn't the best draw for him. Slambino enters the race after running well in his past two starts. If you look at the competition he's faced, hes been racing much better competition, and his last two speed figures are better than the others.

1. Straight Money Man
2. Compromise
3. Slambino
